Another podcast I just love is called Ear Hustle.
It’s a twice-monthly podcast made by Earlonne Woods and Antwan Williams, currently incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison, and Nigel Poor, a Bay Area artist and prison volunteer.
Each episode they focus on topics of life in prison: food, cellmates, family visits, solitary confinement, etc. It is super interesting and also really eye-opening. I feel like my attitude towards the incarcerated has changed since starting to listen to this podcast.
It just started this year and as of today they’ve released 7 episodes, all less than one hour long. They record in the media lab of the prison and they’re on prison time, so their promise of twice-monthly isn’t guaranteed. Actually, the latest episode was released late because of an 18-day lock down. Each episode is listened to and approved by a staff member to ensure that no one in or out of the prison will be in danger based on the information released in the podcast. In addition, it has some adult language and content, not surprisingly.
I highly recommend you check it out! I’d love to know if you do!
