I am OLD SCHOOL about church music.
I want old fashioned hymns, the older the better.
Pretty sure I’m the only one, but hey…I’m me!
But I do love a modern take on them, like a faster speed and let’s be honest, no organ music.
Our wedding song was “A Christian Home” performed by Garrett Lamp from Stubborn Son, John Hintze from Erwilian, and Val Tung (neé Coon) and it was AMAZING! Exactly the style I love. Sometime I’ll try to figure out a way to get it uploaded on here.
So I was so excited to discover the newest album from the boy band (yes, boy band) Anthem Lights: “Hymns“.
Now, I think it’s kind of obvious they didn’t have enough songs to fill a whole album of old-school hymns because there are definitely a few newer songs in there and also a few Christmas songs, but they’re all good and the hymn tracks are so good it’s worth putting up with the others. There’s also a mash up of the hymn “Hallelujah! What a Savior!” Michael W. Smith song “Agnus Dei“ with the song “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen <– my ultimate very favorite song ever, the Rufus Wainwright version!!!
Their voices are so beautiful! They remind me of Plus One (if you were a Christian teen in late 1990s or if you went to high school with me and saw me with a picture of Jason Perry in my locker for 3 of the 4 years of school, you remember Plus One).
Hope you like this album as much as I do!
