Have you ever been part of a class action lawsuit?

A class action lawsuit happens when a person or group of people file a lawsuit against a company and open it up for others to “join in” on the payout if they win.  Others are eligible to join in if they meet certain criteria that they also were wronged by the company for the same reason.

You’ve heard of huge class actions on TV like asbestos, mesothelioma, etc. but there’s a lot of small class action lawsuits that go un-joined because they are only required to advertise a minimum amount, like a tiny ad in the back of a People magazine or something.

But I subscribe to Top Class Actions and receive a weekly email with the latest class action news, and I think you should too!

A lot of the small class actions are probably ones you’d qualify for: you may have received a spam text from a rewards program you signed up for, you may have purchased a bag of chips labeled “all natural” but it actually wasn’t, you may have purchased an as-seen-on-TV item that promised amazing results but didn’t.

You have to give your name, address, and phone number, sometimes you have to provide proof of purchase, and you always have to certify under penalty of perjury that you received the text/made the purchase/etc. so you can’t just sign up for anything you want (but I know you wouldn’t do that anyways!) but if you legitimately qualify, you should claim your free money!

Now I’ll be honest: it’s usually a very small portion of what you spent: you might receive a check for $0.34, but you might receive a check for $50!  Who knows!  I’ve received quite a bit of money over the years this way.
